Asli Smith is a Brooklyn-based textile artist and designer working across art, design and craft. With a background in illustration, surface design and textiles, her work explores the expressive possibilities of natural materials through woven forms, natural dyes and reconstructed surfaces. Asli approaches weaving as a spatial and material language, investigating its structural and tactile possibilities. Her creations range from rugs, tapestries and woven paper works to sculptural textile forms. Asli's design practice also draws on Anatolian textile and weaving traditions, and the region’s myths, histories, and material culture. She works with architects, interior designers, collectors on bespoke pieces for residential and commercial projects.
