Gilda Balass is a Swiss textile artist and designer who studied knitwear at Central Saint Martins and focuses on sustainability, naturally dyed colors and upcycling. Coming partly from a migrational background, Gilda places great importance on social activism, such as female led artisanal projects or community work. Since 2019, she works with independent women and cooperatives in Morocco, pushing boundaries between traditional craftswomanship and art, textile and interior design. Her piece „AMONITE RUG“ has been created during a trip through the desert, where Gilda gathered fossils and dug deeper into existential questions about the origin of being. „AMONITE RUG“ tells the story of human extinction, questioning our place, purpose and responsibility in today’s modern society.
