Mani Bhavana Ala is an Indian artist and textile designer based in South India. Her practice lies at the intersection of art-led design and design-led craft, largely influenced by the nuances of the making process. Her first stint with rugs began at her alma mater, the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, in collaboration with Jaipur Rugs. Her work reflects the influence she draws from climbing hills to experience the vastness of far-off lands, and imagining them into objects as fragments of the outdoors, brought indoors. She continues to explore tactile surfaces, with rugs at the center of her envisioned textile practice.
