Born and raised in New York and New Jersey - the eldest of three-this designer’s story is framed by the journey her Haitian parents took fleeing the Duvalier regime in the pursuit of opportunity. Their legacy of perseverance was etched not only in words, but in surroundings: a home infused with design and needlework, handcrafted furniture, and even the steady hum of vintage cars being lovingly restored. It was here, that her discerning eye and disciplined hands first took shape.
Nurtured by parents who championed literature, jazz music, long meals, robust discussions and travel, a young mind was primed for a vocation that straddled both the intellectual and the tactile. Architecture emerged as a natural choice- a profession that combines the precision of design with the potential to shape living environments. Over two decades, this designer has quietly amassed a portfolio of residential work informed by the belief that beauty and function exist in seamless dialog- the hallmark of enduring design.
Inspired by the textures and dimension of fine art, nudged the transformation of painted motifs into woven textiles. A deep dive into the history and technique of rug-making followed, with immersive trips to Nepal and Turkey, each journey an apprenticeship under master dyers and weavers, and a lesson in honoring tradition through contemporary design.
The result are rugs that speak with quiet authority, offering a sense of warmth and modernity to interiors. Each piece reflects integrity, an insistence on craftsmanship born of cultural respect, and technical study. The rugs serve as punctuations in space, enriching daily life much like a well-considered architectural intervention.
From a childhood of immersed in workshop to the creation of homes and intricately woven textiles, this journey embodies a tapestry of layered craftsmanship. At its core is a steadfast dedication to shaping environments whether it may be buildings, rooms, or rugs that inspire with meaning. Its a quietly powerful narrative of heritage and hands; of mindful making in the service of living.
