In 2014, CARALARGA emerged from an exploration of raw cotton thread and textile waste sourced from the old El Hércules textile factory, initially creating jewelry and clothing pieces before expanding into interior decoration. Today, the studio develops pieces that seek to transform spaces through designs that highlight the qualities, textures and possibilities of raw cotton and sansevieria fiber, working in close collaboration with artisans, architects and designers.
Each CARALARGA piece is the result of a collective and creative legacy built in community, representing only a small part of the long journey we have taken as a textile workshop. Through this ongoing evolution and expertise, we have consolidated techniques such as "Recuperado" (transformation of scrap material), tassels, barrel wrapping, stitching, braiding, cords and festoons, each exploring the versatility of the fiber through original pieces that celebrate craftsmanship and collaborative making.
With a minimalist and simple approach, CARALARGA abstracts motifs of broad and complex meanings, drawing inspiration from the architecture of nature, pre-hispanic myths and legends, and Mexico’s cultural manifestations. Our work centers on raw cotton thread and textile waste, complemented by natural materials such as sansevieria fiber, while working alongside artisan hands who preserve ancestral techniques and sustainable practices.
