Leonie Bachstädter is a textile designer and artist with a Master’s degree in Design of Textile Products. Her practice begins with the textile itself, exploring materiality through both digital and physical processes. She is particularly interested in the dialogue between these two approaches and how they can inspire one another.
Her work is driven by an interest in woven structures, construction details, and tactile surface qualities. Through an iterative process of sampling, she investigates how the same pattern or structure can be translated across diFerent textile techniques, revealing new material expressions and possibilities. Rather than imposing a predetermined outcome, she allows the inherent characteristics of materials and craft processes to guide the development of each piece.
Contrasts play a central role in her work, where reflective and matte surfaces, metallic elements and deep black tones, or coated leather and soft wool in rugs create a dynamic interplay between texture, light, and materiality.
Alongside her work in the fashion industry, Leonie develops her artistic practice under the name Eleonora da Bacchi, exploring how textile surfaces can be translated between physical and digital environments through experimental, material-driven processes.
Leonie lives and works in Cologne, Germany.
